Room 503, Saturday Mid-Afternoon

Dōjima had listened to radio once she got up (late) this morning.

Dōjima was currently suppressing the desire to bang her head against the wall.

Red was an idiot.  Clearly, confronting her at work was giving Rikku 'time'.  Maybe she'd go throw a dictionary at his head later.  That might be amusing. 

Firing off a quick text message to Rikku, she tossed her phone on the nightstand and walked over to crack the window open just a bit, letting in some fresh air as she set about doing some spring cleaning.   Going through her clothes and getting rid of last seasons' stuff might be a fun distraction, since it meant she could go shopping later.

"Bite me, Red." Dōjima rolled her eyes and reached out to smack him lightly against the back of his head. "Here I didn't think he was your type."

Reno took the swat to the back of the head in stride.

"You know, you're right. He's too... somethin'. I'll think of it, jus' give me a moment, yoto."

He tilted his head. He considered.

"Oh yeah. Male."

"See, you've been limiting your Friday night fun right there," she teased, "Eliminating an entire gender is just short-sighted, silly."

"I'd tell you what you were missing, but, well, mine." Dōjima shrugged unapologetically. "I'm not very good with sharing."

"You know, I'd be more concerned about missin' out on that Friday night fun thing if it weren't for the fact that me an' Rik-"

"Friday nights are overrated anyhow, zoto."

"Yes, well, we all know that your favorite day is Tuesday, when the squirrels give you the good gossip and the rum," she joked. No, Yurika hadn't missed the slip, but she could pretend.

"I still think that's creepy, I really don't wanna know how those rodents know everything. Damned little voyeurs."

"Normally, I like the little rats. They give me booze, I can deal with that, yoto." He was smiling again. Pretending was very appreciated, yes. "I only really got a problem when their snoopin' for the news gets me assaulted afterward."

Dōjima smiled angelically. She could pretend for as long as he needed. "Why Red, I have no idea what you're talking about. Assault is such a strong word, I like to think of it as corrective encouragement."

"Yes, well, until they start giving me booze as a bribe for prying into my private affairs, I'll stick with creepy."

"I'm pretty sure the booze is for employees only, but I could probably sneak you a bottle of rum now an' then to make up for their voyeurism, yo."

He paused, looking around the room suspiciously.

"They better not've heard that, or it'll be on tonight's broadcast and the whole damn island'll be expectin' one."

"No, they won't be expecting one, because you love me more than them, and that's why I get booze. Besides, I'm cuter, entertaining, and I bring you terrible microwaved noodles. That means it's your sacred duty to provide me with rum, get me wasted, then point and mock my hangover." To Dōjima, this makes perfect sense.

"That last part makes it all worthwhile," Reno smirked, then picked another leaf off of his jacket and studied it. "Though I'm thinkin' your hangovers could learn a lesson from mine, yo. Ever wake up in the woods with one, wonderin' what the hell you were thinkin' the night before?"

"Woods? No. Wrong city? Yes." Dōjima shook her head and grinned. "Although I don't have to wonder what I was thinking. I occasionally remember at least part of it, I just have to wonder why I thought it was a good idea."

"Eh, other cities, I do all the time. 'Kalm? How the hell'd I end up out in the middle of the asscrack of nowhere?' That ain't a stretch." He stuck the leaf into his pocket and shrugged. "Takes a special kinda stupid to brutally torture a laptop, though. Even if the damn thing was pretty much askin' for it all week."

"We're in the asscrack of nowhere right now, if you think about it." Yurika grabbed one of the many leaves he had shed and flicked it into the air. "We're in America, in one of their backwards little states. Hardly the cradle of civilization. But yeah, you're a special, shiny kind a stupid, Red. You're lucky you're just so damn entertaining."

"So, you gonna tell me why the laptop was asking for it, or am I going to have to guess? You seemed pretty determined to fix the thing, earlier."

Reno opened his mouth to answer.

He then shut it again. Gave a shrug of his shoulders, and wrestled to keep the faintest bit of a grin on his lips.

"I could tell you, yoto. But now you got me curious what kinda guesses you might actually have."

Fine. She had given him an actual chance to talk, but if he wanted to be all...stupid-boy-macho and ignore it, that was his choice.

"It made fun of your hair?" Hey, it was possible.

"Everyone around here makes fun of my hair, yo. I ain't killed anything else for it yet."

Reno kind of hated how the operative word in that sentence was 'yet.'

"No, that's not it. Try again? Or do I gotta start givin' hints?"

"It misused the word 'yoto', and had to be put out of its misery?" Dōjima shrugged. "Or was it those suggestive images of Rude it kept flashing at you?"

"Aw, damn, nailed it on the third guess," he snapped a finger and clicked his tongue. "Last thing I ever wanted to see was--"

No. Screw that. He was being stupid.

"It just felt like it wasn't ever gonna get fixed."

"So you kicked the crap out of it?" Dōjima gave him a look that clearly stated she thought all men were insane. "I hear they have nice punching bags down at the gym, for that sort of thing."

"Felt better to take it out on somethin' that actually meant somethin', yo. And it had to be out there. Chose the tree real careful and everything."

Said tree still had dark spots on the trunk where his head had hit it a few times a while back.

"Was the next best thing to beatin' my head against a wall, I guess."

"I'd rather you kill the laptop than dent the wall with that hard head of yours."

"Do me a favor? Next time, call one of us when you're done, just so we can haul your drunk ass back to bed?" Dōjima tossed another leaf at him. "The idea of you sleeping out in the preserve with those angels kinda creeps me out, okay?"

He watched the leaf as it fluttered downward to rest on the bed beside him.

And then he glanced up at Dōjima, looking almost confused for a moment before he nodded. Right. Angels. Which had been the last thing on his mind when he had gone out there to find that tree, but it was maybe a valid concern for a friend to have. And not sleeping on the ground was a good plan, too, and having people around here who gave a crap about any of it was... Pretty damn awesome.

"Yeah. Yeah, I can do that, yo." Pause. "Thanks."

Dōjima gave a half-shrug and smiled slightly. "Yeah, well, knowing those things are out there still gives me nightmares, and you out alone..." she trailed off a bit before shrugging again and giving a bit brighter of a grin. "But yeah, welcome. Anytime. Besides, I'll bring popcorn next time, and provide witty commentary while you rip stuff up. It'll be fun."

"I might have to break things more often, if there's gonna be popcorn and commentary involved," he replied, then dusted another leaf off of his lap and smirked. "I'm makin' a mess, aren't I?"

"Yeah, you are," she agreed, resisting the urge to pick another bit of monitor out of his hair. "Boys. Always breaking stuff and making messes. I think it's a requirement of the gender."

"Wait, who said you get any of the popcorn? Maybe I'm gonna keep it all to myself."
