Somewhere in Buenos Aires, Friday Night

The abduction on Thursday afternoon had gone perfectly. Yurika had packed a bag, handwavily given baby 'Fuzzy' off to Worf, and grabbed a Romeo by an arm to drag him down to their portal.
Not that he needed much dragging. The lure of a vacation had been a rather good incentive.

Dōjima Yurika |
You couldn't wander around Buenos Aires for long before stumbling on a tango salon. It was more immutable than the laws of physics, and somehow they had found one of the many places offering free lessons before dinner, with dancing all night long. The temptation was, perhaps, too great to resist. Yurika had no idea how to dance a tango, but that wasn't going to stop her from learning. |
Romeo Montague |
Romeo squeezed her hand and grinned. "Have you ever done this before?" He hadn't. But he could learn. |
Dōjima |
"Nope!" she answered cheerfully, watching the other people with barely-contained excitement. "My parents made me take ballroom classes when I was younger. I managed to learn a socially acceptable waltz, but that's about it." |
Romeo |
"I can almost waltz," Romeo said, resting his hand on the small of her back. She was happy; that made him happy. "This ... this looks like more fun." He trained his eyes on the instructor. "Do we wait for her to notice us, or do we join the others?" |
Dōjima |
"Much more fun," she agreed, turning her head to beam at him. The hand on her back felt nice, and Yurika had the most handsome date in the room. This vacation was wonderful. Yurika looked at the other patrons, mostly comprised of other tourists, and grinned. "I think we just join in?" she said, taking a step towards the rest of the group. "It looks like it's just barely starting." |
Romeo |
"It does. Let's go, then," Romeo agreed, following along with her. The instructor indicated they should stand facing each other. "I think I like this already," he said, as they were nudged closer together yet. He took the leader's pose -- hand on her back, opposite arm extended to the side. |
Dōjima |
"You would," she laughed, placing her left hand on his shoulder as the teachers demonstrated. "Although I think I like it too." She placed her palm in his hand, paying close attention as the instructors started to slowly show the basic step. "So, I move my right foot back, yes?" |
Romeo |
"Would you blame me?" "And I step forward with my left," Romeo nodded. He fumbled that just slightly. "Left, not right. Now the right." He slid his right leg forward, glancing to the couple closest to them to see if he was doing it right. |
Dōjima |
"Blame you for enjoying this?" she purred, trying to side her left food back without tripping, quickly glancing to the side to try and copy the other dancers. "Not likely." |
Romeo |
There was a turn, here, and Romeo was bold enough to try it quickly. Step-step-glide-turn, and she was close and the music was lovely, and if they were slightly awkward they were still doing better than many of the other tourists. "We ought to dance more often, love." |
Dōjima |
It was a good thing Yurika preferred her Montague bold, especially since he was leading. Giggling, she let him spin her around, doing her best to follow and remember the steps. "We should," she agreed, preening slightly. "Because we are very pretty, and we move nicely, and it makes everyone else jealous." |
Romeo |
He was leading. There was no point in leading if you couldn't do it boldly. He swallowed a giggle at what she said, and his smile got yet more wolf-like. "We can dance all night here, at least," he suggested. ... and promptly stumbled over a shoelace. He caught himself before he fell, but not before knocking into the couple next to them. |
Dōjima |
Yurika yelped as Romeo tossed her center of balance off, and she clung to him to stay upright. She blushed bright red and stuttered an apology to the poor people next to them before stepping closer to him to resume dancing. "Do we need to take a break, so you can retie your shoes, koibito-mine?" |
Romeo |
Romeo went almost as red as he caught the instructor's glare. "Aye. I'll do it swift." He sidestepped and retied the errant lace, then took her hand, ready to launch back into the dance. "What was that about us moving well?" |
Dōjima |
"Normally we move well together," Yurika amended, falling back into step with him. Right-left-right-sliiiiide. Okay. No crashing into anyone else was a bonus. "But we're used to dancing alone, not in a crowded ballroom." |
Romeo |
"And usually we aren't doing anything so formal as" -- sliiiide-left-right-left-turn -- "this." Romeo concentrated on getting the steps right, praying he wouldn't slip again. |
Dōjima |
Yurika risked a glance at the other tourists and smiled. "We're not doing too badly," she whispered. "Besides, we'll get better with practice, ne?" |
Romeo |
"That is always the theory, and I don't mind putting in the time." Rather the opposite, in fact. |
Dōjima |
Yurika just smiled, moving closer to him as their steps grew more confident. She'd dance with him anytime. |
