Room 503, Saturday Mid-Afternoon

Dōjima had listened to radio once she got up (late) this morning.

Dōjima was currently suppressing the desire to bang her head against the wall.

Red was an idiot. Clearly, confronting her at work was giving Rikku 'time'. Maybe she'd go throw a dictionary at his head later. That might be amusing.

Firing off a quick text message to Rikku, she tossed her phone on the nightstand and walked over to crack the window open just a bit, letting in some fresh air as she set about doing some spring cleaning. Going through her clothes and getting rid of last seasons' stuff might be a fun distraction, since it meant she could go shopping later.

"Spring cleaning, hoping it would clear my brain a bit," she admitted. "Sorting out clothes to keep, clothes to send home, and stuff to donate. I try to clean out my closets every year, to make room for more shopping adventures."

"It's not working. The brain-sorting, I mean."

He nodded slowly, then squeezed her hand. "There's been too much going on," he said. "Might take more than a trip to Salvation Army to send it off."

"I, ah, threw a book at Reno," she admitted quietly. "He stopped by while you were in detention, and I totally nailed him in the head."

Surprise forced a short burst of laughter, a dry "Ha!" out of Romeo.

Then: "I can't say he hasn't earned it."

"Radio said he went to see Rikku at work yesterday, then he shows up this morning looking completely bedraggled and disreputable, worse than usual, to return my duct tape. It wasn't hard to figure out that it hadn't gone well. So, I threw the thesaurus at him." She shrugged slightly. "It helped."

Romeo facepalmed. "He should have waited for her to find him," he said. "Or at least ended the conversation when it turned bad. But, Jesu, I fear what he may have done."

he glanced around for the thesaurus. "Big book."

"He said he had things he needed say, which is fair, he has the right to say them. I might have pointed out that lurking around her work might not be the best place to say it." Dōjima winced. "By throwing the book. But I really really do feel better now, and he knows it was dumb."

"He apparently got roaring drunk, took his laptop into the preserve, and smashed the hell out of it." Yurika fidgeted nervously. "You know, far be it from me to deprive someone of what they need. I know I've gotten drunk more than a few times to cope with shit, but, well, I'm worried."

"He has the right to say them, perhaps he even should say them, but if it went so badly he was taking it out on his laptop ..." He sighed, leaned into her shoulder. "It worries me too. Not just the drinking."

"Do you think he would go home?" Because that, right there, was Romeo's biggest fear.

Yurika shook her head negatively. "No, I don't. We made a dare for graduation. I think he wants to stay."

"Good," Romeo said firmly. "If he's here, if he wants to stay, at least things are that much better."

"He seemed a lot more resolved to win her back, and a lot less doom-and-gloom today," Yurika replied, snuggling closer. "I even managed to make him laugh. Now we just need a magic spell for world peace, and we'll be all set."

"If you can get him to be all right, I have faith you can fit the world peace spell in after you finish with your clothes." He scooted back slightly, so he was against the wall. "It must have been good to hear him laugh again."

"I can't get him to be all right, but I can at least treat him like normal," she replied. "I'm not going to lie and say everything's dandy, but I'm not going to indulge his pity-party by treating him like a monster."

"It was good, hearing him laugh. If he's serious about putting things back together, then he needs somewhere to start from. And if making dirty jokes helps him get his head back together, then I can do that." Yurika smirked slightly. "All the super powers at Fandom, and the greatest one in my arsenal is innuendo."

It was good to have a wall to lean against; it gave Romeo something to do while he thought. "He's not a monster, anyhow," he said. "Doing monstrous things doesn't make you a monster. Enjoying them is the terrible thing." And if she didn't know what he meant, he'd claim he was speaking hypothetically.

He reached up to run a finger down her spine. "You never give yourself enough credit, but somehow I suspect Reno appreciates the healing power of a dirty joke."

"He told you too, huh?" Yurika leaned into the touch and closed her eyes. "I had already guessed. Part of it, I mean. He reminds me too much of the men my father employs for me not to figure it out."

"I offered to call his partner, and he turned me down. Something about the two of us enjoying it too much." She smiled slightly and reached over to lay a hand on his knee. "I also kinda dared him to moon everyone at graduation."

"I hadn't," Romeo admitted. "I wasn't surprised, so I suppose I could have, if I had thought about it, but I didn't think about it." His fingers walked across her shoulders. "I was always good at ignoring certain parts of the family business, and it's hard to drop that habit."

He smiled. "I'll pay him, if he follows through on that dare."

Yurika grinned slightly, looking smug. "If he does it, I'm supposed to get a picture of his boss's face. He also has to 'wark' and wiggle. Not at this upcoming graduation, though, he has to do it at our graduation. Those were the terms of the deal."

Romeo laughed at the mental image. "You know if they go in alphabetical order, he's probably right before Rikku," he pointed out. "Not that it would be anything she's not seen, but still."

"I'm going to die," Dōjima said cheerfully. "She's going to find out that it was my idea, which it was, and then she'll kill me. At least I'll die an amused woman, right?"

"You'll be up with the D's," he pointed out, leaning to kiss her temple. "I'll try to stop laughing long enough to restrain her before she gets to you."

"She's gotta cross the stage and finish throttling Reno before she gets to me, too, so that should give you time to save me."

"This is all assuming that Rikku doesn't kill him before we managed to graduate, but I figure that we can work out the minor details as we go."

"Pfft," Romeo said, waving a hand through the air dismissively. "If she hasn't blown him up this week, he may be safe. Or the island might find itself bored, and turn us all into newts tomorrow."

"No, it already turned some of us into newts," she teased, poking at his ribs. "Next week is bunnies."

He elbowed her right back. "Which would of course be such a change for some of us," he pointed out.

"Did you get turned into a rabbit, and no one told me?" she asked. "I'll have to be sure not to order hassenpfeffer if I go to Fina or anything like that."
